The Good News

Turn on ‘The News’ on your TV or iPad and most of its ‘Bad News’ with scenes of violence, terrorism, natural disasters and death to name just a few!  It seems almost everywhere you look, something bad is happening.

Of course, if we were honest, we’ve said, thought and done some bad stuff ourselves – the Bible calls this ‘sin’ and us ‘sinners’.

Sin separates us from God

The Bible tells us that everyone has sinned and because of that, we all fall short of God’s glorious standard and so if we think we’re free from sin, we’re only fooling ourselves.

There’s nothing wrong with God: it’s our sin that caused the split between us and God.

This is really bad news because there’s no way we can mend that split.

Now for the GOOD NEWS

There is a way to get to God – JESUS!

When Jesus, the Son of God, died on the cross, He took the
punishment our sin deserved to make it possible for us to ‘get to God’!

Here’s some other things the Bible says about this Good News:

Christ (Jesus) proved God’s passionate love for us by dying in our place while we were still lost and ungodly!  (1)

This is how much God loved the world: He gave His Son, His one and only Son.  (2)

Jesus said ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’  (3)

From the Bible:

(1) Romans: chapter 5 verse 8      (2) John’s Gospel: chapter 3 verse 16      (3) John’s Gospel: chapter 14 verse 6       (4) Romans: chapter 10 verse 13)

The Mission was simple:
make a way for us and God to be together again

What GOOD NEWS!!  No matter how badly we’ve messed up, we can place our trust in Jesus, who takes our sins away.

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.  (4)

Jesus is the one who offers us good news. He offers us peace with God, He offers life, a full life. He offers to take our “bad news” and turn it into “good news.” It is only by calling on the name of Jesus we will be saved!

Do you want that in your own life?  A way out of all the mess, and in exchange – freedom, peace, joy, a sense of belonging and knowing that you’re loved by God?

Tell Jesus it’s what you want more than anything else.
Why don’t you pray now using your own words or, if you prefer, those below:

“Jesus, I need you. I know that I am a “sinner” – I come to you, and ask you to forgive me. I know that you died on the cross to take away all my sins. I accept your forgiveness and ask you into my life. Jesus, be my Saviour and Lord. Fill me with your Spirit. I will trust and follow you for the rest of my life. Amen.”

CONGRATULATIONS and Welcome to the Family!!

“To all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God.”  (1)

“For the Holy Spirit makes God’s Fatherhood real to us as He whispers to our innermost being ‘You are God’s beloved child.”  (2)

Here Are THREE THINGS You Should Do Now:

Tell

Share your good news with others – family – friends – workmates.

“If you believe with your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead and publically confess with your mouth that he is Lord, you will be saved.  It is by believing in your heart that you are right with God, and by confessing with your mouth that you are saved”  (3)

“The first thing Andrew did after following Jesus was to go and find his brother, Simon, and TOLD him, “We have found the Anointed One!” (Christ-Jesus).  Then Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus.”  (4)

Read

Another name for the Bible is ‘The Word of God’.  By reading a little of it every day you will learn how to live your new life in a way that pleases God.  A good place to start is Mark’s Gospel.

“Your WORD is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”  (5)

“The teaching of your WORD gives light, so even the simple can understand.”  (6)

“Let the WORD of Christ – the Message – have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense” (7)

“Don’t just listen to Gods WORD. You must do what it says.”  (8)

Find

Getting together with other Christians is a great encouragement  –
You Are Not Alone!  Find a church where people will help you to learn how to enjoy your new life and grow in your love for Jesus.

“When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.”  (9)

“On arriving there, they gathered the church together . . . .”  (10)

“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.  And let’s not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another.” (11)

“The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers used to meet together . . . .”  (12)

From the Bible:

(1) John’s Gospel:  chapter 1 verse 12      (2) Romans:  chapter 8 verse 16      (3) Romans: chapter 10 verses 9 & 10     (4) John’s Gospel: chapter 1 verses 41 & 42      (5) Psalm 119 verse 105      (6) Psalm 119 verse 130     (7) Colossians: chapter 3 verse 16      (8) James: chapter 1 verse 22      (9) Acts: chapter 2 verse 1     (10) Acts: chapter 14 verse 27      (11) Hebrews: chapter 10 verses 24 & 25)      (12) Acts: chapter 5 verse 12
